Neurodivergent Support
Supporting Neurodiveregent Families, Teens, Adolecents & Adults
At The Healers' Dance in Blessington, County Wicklow, we recognise that every neurodivergent young person experiences the world in their own unique way. Whether a child or teenager is autistic, has ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, sensory differences, or another form of neurodivergence, the right support can make a meaningful difference to their emotional wellbeing, confidence, and ability to thrive.
We also understand that parents and caregivers play a vital role in this journey. Raising and supporting a neurodivergent young person can be rewarding, but it can also bring challenges, questions, and moments of uncertainty. That is why our approach is centred not only on the needs of young people, but also on empowering families with understanding, practical guidance, and compassionate support.
At The Healers Dance, we provide a welcoming, inclusive environment where young people can explore their strengths, build resilience, and develop tools to support their mental health and wellbeing.
Through tailored supports, therapeutic services, and family-focused guidance,
we aim to help each individual feel seen, understood, and valued.
We believe that by working together, families can navigate challenges with greater confidence
and celebrate the unique strengths and abilities that neurodivergence brings!
Donna Mowlds
Neurodiversity Specialist Practitioner
Donna's work is rooted in creating a safe, grounded space where people can explore what's really happening beneath the surface; emotional patterns, stress, fears and internal pressure that can feel overwhelming.
Supporting a child with additional needs isn't easy and its so much more than staying in routine. Its about the mental load that never switches off, the pressure to hold everything together, the loneliness that people dont see and the sadness that people just dont get.
Donna offers one-to-one support for teenagers experiencing challenges associated with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety, and other neurodivergent experiences, particularly where these challenges are affecting school, learning, exams or everyday life.
Support for Parents of Neurodivergent Teenagers
Supporting a neurodivergent teenager can be exhausting.
Parents can find themselves dealing with school refusal, anxiety, overwhelm, difficult behaviours, school meetings, assessments, paperwork, and constantly trying to secure the right supports, often while feeling emotionally exhausted themselves.
Donna supports parents not only to understand their child's neurodivergence but also to understand themselves and what may be happening for them as a parent.
Parent support can include:
- Understanding your child's brain and how their neurodivergence may affect them
- Understanding behaviour and what may be happening underneath it
- Understanding regulation and co-regulation
- Recognising triggers and patterns
- Understanding school refusal and school-related anxiety
- Understanding masking and nervous system overwhelm
- Exploring how we were parented and how our own experiences may influence our parenting style
- Developing a trauma-informed understanding of ourselves and our responses
- Understanding how our own experiences and triggers may be affecting our parenting responses
- Managing feelings of guilt, sadness, frustration, anger, loneliness, and overwhelm
- Building confidence in your parenting
- Supporting your own emotional well-being and mental health
- Helping you feel less alone in the parenting journey
Donna offers one-to-one wellbeing and therapeutic support for parents, as well as parent support groups, workshops, and courses.
